Dear church family,

At the time of writing, pastor Nate is on vacation with his family, so I’m stepping into his usual place to introduce this letter. 

I’d like to take this opportunity to remind the church of our focus areas heading into the year. You may recall that for the last several years, our session has been in the practice of getting away for a full day of strategic planning. During that time we pray; review our church’s vision, mission, and core values, making the occasional revision; and then spend time brainstorming and discerning what to focus on in the coming years.

One product of that meeting is that we come away with several focus areas for the ministry year—particular initiatives we’ll pursue to get us closer to the vision of our church. 

Here are the focus areas that came out of our time together: 

• Prayer: Through revamping the Reformed Hours of Prayer App and other means, we want to make prayer a big part of our daily and seasonal rhythms. 

• Evangelism: Our content focus of the year, we are seeking revival across our county through training and efforts in evangelism. 

• Land/Facilities: We continue to explore options to meet the needs of our expanding church, staff, and school.

• Fundraising/Capital Campaign: This goes with the above item, as whatever solution we find will require more capital than we currently have on hand. 

• Position Paper on Women's Roles in Church: The session is updating its 2018 position paper for clarity and alignment with our denomination’s work on this topic. 

• Christ Church Press: We hope to publish at least one more book, as well as write more articles. 

• Sunday Evening Service: Around Lent we plan to launch an evening service, which will be fairly simple in structure compared to our morning service.

The core of our work remains the ordinary means of grace: the ministry of the word and sacrament, prayer, and fellowship. Please join us in praying for faithful commitment to these simple means, even as we pursue these other initiatives as we go along.

Session Update | On July 21, the Session and the Diaconate met for a combined meeting. Here are some highlights from the meeting:

• After finishing a meal together, they broke off into groups to pray for various members of the congregation.

• Pastor Matt gave an update on the PCA Foundation and discussed further partnership with them.

• Jon Brodhagen presented the financial reports for June 2026 and year end. After some discussion, the deacons left for their meeting.

• The Session approved the formation of a committee to continue planning and discerning the potential launch of Christ Church Medical.

• The Session discussed the officer nominations, and proceeded to move forward with notifying a number of men that they have been nominated for either elder or deacon, inviting them to prayerfully consider entering the officer candidate training process.

• Pastor Matt updated the Session on General Assembly, and Pastor Nate updated the Session on the ACCS conference.

• We discussed various matters related to pastoral care.

Discipleship Groups 

Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” (Matt 4:19)

Discipleship is an organic combination of the above call. It involves imitating Jesus (“follow me”), being transformed by him (“I will make you …”), and taking up his mission as our own (“fishers of men”).

Discipleship Groups (DGs) are designed to help facilitate obedience to this call. DGs are gender-specific groups of 4–7 that commit to study God’s word and truth, pursue spiritual disciplines, encourage one another, and spur one another on in mission. 

Signups are open now for Discipleship Groups. These groups launch mid-September and run through May, with breaks around the holidays. We'll be doing a study of Proverbs in the fall, and then after the New Year groups will do their own Bible studies (curriculum optional). Group members will also read a few short-ish books in the winter and spring, and discuss them occasionally in the group meeting. 

Home Groups 

“And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.” (Acts 2:46–47)

The Bible offers a beautiful vision of the magnetic power of fellowship and hospitality. As the early church committed themselves to sharing meals, discussing the word, and praying communally, the Lord grew his church.

Home Groups are designed to continue this longstanding tradition of home fellowships. And after a one-year experiment of an alternative approach to these gatherings, we are returning to our former approach. A Home Group is made up of 4–6 family units who gather for fellowship in each others’ homes every other week or so. They share a meal, discuss the sermon, pray together, support each other, and hang out.

One way we live out God’s command to bear one another’s burdens (Gal 6:2) and do good to each other (6:10) is through meal trains. When someone gives birth, undergoes major surgery, is grieving a severe loss, or is otherwise under an acute burden, providing meals is a simple yet significant way to show love and support. Under the oversight of the Diaconate, Tiffany Ng organizes this (and thank you to Brittany Dean and Sherry Ott for organizing prior).

You may notice we have a few pregnant mothers milling about, so dust off those recipes in anticipation of quite a few meal trains in the near future!
