A Note from Our Pastor

Dear CCB family,

May you find the loving providence of God the Father guiding you week by week, and the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ to be your strength. Peace, joy, and love to you all.

I have been having many conversations with members of our church as we have been working our way through the book of Daniel on Sunday mornings. Every Fall we study a book of the Old Testament, and the books we will study are planned many years in advance. So it is God's providence that we'd find ourselves in Daniel this year. 

Last year, we studied the Song of Solomon (or Song of Songs), and found ourselves week after week for over two months reflecting on a biblical vision for marriage and sexuality. (I'm sure many at that time thought, "Is this all we are going to talk about?") Well, of course that time passed, and we have since then hit on many other topics in the Bible and the Christian life.

As it turned out, it has been similar with the book of Daniel. But instead of sermons on marriage, our theme this Fall has been political theology. I've found this is an area of theology and culture that many Christians have not thought about deeply, and so I am grateful we've had the opportunity to spend a season thinking about it. I hope you are learning and benefiting from it. I sense that some members might be thinking something similar to last year—"Is this all we are going to talk about?" The answer is "no." Just like Song of Songs, we'll find ourselves soon moving on to new topics. I'm looking forward to starting the book of Acts in January, and my hope is to have special emphasis next year on evangelism and sharing our faith with our neighbors.

I know that the recent sermons have felt unsettling to some, so I want you to know you can always come and talk to me. I love and care about each one of you. I will always listen to what you have to say, and hope that you'd be willing to hear what I have to say too.

I'm so grateful for the faith, hope, and love I see growing in our community. May the Lord be honored in our life together, and may we see his kingdom expand in Bellingham and Whatcom County.

Session Update

Session Update | On October 21st, the Session of CCB met for their monthly meeting.

• The branding committee delivered a presentation regarding updated branding for CCB and TCS for the Session to consider.

• The Session considered potential further pastoral internship opportunities, and further continuing education for Pastor Nate.

• They considered the refinance on the church mortgage, and a potential opportunity with a property.

• They heard an update regarding the past presbytery meeting, and considered how our ruling elders could be more involved in our presbytery and denomination.

• The Session also took some time to discuss the topic of politics and the church, in light of the Daniel sermon series, and how that relates to how our church engages with our community.

 
Ordination of Deacon | Dustin Hill was recently ordained to the office of deacon. We’re thankful to the Lord for raising up godly men to serve our church body. Keep Dustin and the rest of our leaders in your prayers as they work to shepherd our church.
